These only wait for a single Shout for which there will be no delay. 15 They say: Our Lord! Hasten on for us our fate before the Day of Reckoning. 16 Bear with patience what they say, and remember Our votary David, man of strength. He surely turned to Us in penitence. 17 With him We subjected the mountains to give glory at evening and sunrise, 18 And the birds also, gathering all oft-returning onto Him on his account. 19 We made his kingdom strong and gave him wisdom and decisive speech. 20 ۞ Has the tiding of the dispute come to thee? When they scaled the Sanctuary, 21 when they entered upon David, and he took fright at them; and they said, 'Fear not; two disputants we are -- one of us has injured the other; so judge between us justly, and transgress not, and guide us to the right path.' 22 'Behold, this my brother has ninety-nine ewes, and I have one ewe. So he said, "Give her into my charge"; and he overcame me in the argument.' 23 Said Dawud, “He is indeed being unjust to you in that he demands to add your ewe to his ewes; and indeed most partners wrong one another, except those who believe and do good deeds – and they are very few!” Thereupon Dawud realised that We had tested him, so he sought forgiveness from his Lord, and fell prostrate and inclined (towards his Lord). (Command of Prostration # 10) ۩ 24 So We forgave him that; and verily for him is an approach with us, and a happy retreat. 25 “O Dawud! We have indeed appointed you as a Viceroy in the earth, therefore judge between mankind with the truth, and do not follow desire for it will lead you astray from Allah’s path; indeed for those who stray away from Allah’s path is a severe punishment, because they forgot the Day of Reckoning.” 26
