Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
