Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
