Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism). 9 in a sublime garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
