He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
