The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
