Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
