The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
