The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
