Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
