The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and by the Book in lines 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 By the roof elevated. 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
