The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
