A multitude of those of old 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
