O you who are clothed! 1 arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still desires more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
