Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions lined up 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
