Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! 1 What is the Sure Reality? 2 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the reality is! 3 THE LIE gave [the tribes of] Thamud and 'Ad to [all tidings of] that sudden calamity! 4 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning. 5 And as for 'Aad they were destroyed by a wind, furious, roaring. 6 which continued to strike them for seven nights and eight days so that eventually you could see the people lying dead like the hollow trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin. 9 They defied their Lord's messenger, so He seized them with an ever-tightening grip. 10 Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship 11 That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast 13 and the earth and the mountains are carried aloft and are crushed to bits at one stroke, 14 on that Day, the Event occurs. 15 and heaven shall be split, for upon that day it shall be very frail, 16 And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]. 17 On that day you shall be exposed to view-- no secret of yours shall remain hidden. 18 He who is given his ledger in his right hand, will say: "Here, read my ledger. 19 Verily I was sure that I should be a meeter of my reckoning. 20 His shall be a pleasing life 21 In high empyrean 22 with its fruits within easy reach. 23 “Eat and drink with pleasure – the reward of what you sent ahead, in the past days.” 24 But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record 25 and knew nothing of my reckoning. 26 "Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me! 27 "My wealth has not availed me, 28 [and] all my power of argument has died away from me!" 29 Lay hold on him, then put a chain on him, 30 "And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire. 31 “Then bind him inside a chain which is seventy arm-lengths.” 32 Indeed, he did not use to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 33 Nor urged others to feed the poor. 34 So no friend has he here this Day, 35 nor any food save the filth 36 "Which none do eat but those in sin." 37
