Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
