In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
