In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
