Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
