The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
