In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
