The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
