The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
