The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Do such people not realize that they will be raised up, 4 For a mighty day, 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what could make thee conceive what that that mode inescapable will be? 8 It is a written book. 9 Woe on that day to the rejecters, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 for, none gives the lie to it but such as are wont to transgress against all that is [and are] immersed in sin: 12 When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. 16 and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." 17 However, the records of the deeds of the virtuous ones will certainly be in Illiyin. 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 witnessed by all who have [ever] been drawn close unto God. 21 Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss, 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They will be served the choicest wine, sealed 25 Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss - 26 and its mixture is Tasneem, 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 Verily those who have sinned were wont at those who had believed to laugh, 29 and winked at one another as they passed them by. 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 But on this Day the Believers will laugh at the Unbelievers: 34 Reclining on couches, looking on. 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
