Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions ranged 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
