And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
