The people of Thamud rejected Our warnings. 23 they said, "Are we to follow a man from amongst ourselves? We would surely then fall into error and madness. 24 Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar. 25 'They shall surely know tomorrow who is the impudent liar. 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 And declare thou unto them that water hath been divided between them; every drinking shall be by turns. 28 In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 30 Verily We, We sent upon them one shout, and they became as the stubble of a fold-builder. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 32 LOT'S PEOPLE [too] gave the lie to all [Our] warnings: 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 As a reward from Us; this is how We reward one who gives thanks. 35 He had warned them of Our assault but they disputed the warnings. 36 And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning." 37 And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment. 38 So have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings. 39 We have made the Koran an easy Remembrance, is there any that will remember! 40
