The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 it will be a hard day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
