The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
