Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
