The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing exalting. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
