The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great event, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
