Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 and raised couches, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
