Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
