Has the story reached thee, of the honoured guests of Abraham? 24 They entered to him and said: 'Peace' And he replied: 'Peace, you are people unknown to me' 25 Then he turned aside to his family secretly and brought a fat (roasted) calf, 26 He placed it before them. Then he said, "Why are you not eating?" 27 (When they did not eat), He conceived a fear of them. They said, "Fear not," and they gave him glad tidings of a son endowed with knowledge. 28 Then came forward his wife, clamouring, and she smote her face, and said, 'An old woman, barren!' 29 They said: "Even so says your Lord. Verily, He is the All-Wise, the All-Knower." 30 ۞ He said: What is your affair then, O apostles! 31 They said: Surely we are sent to a guilty people, 32 That we may send down upon them stone of clay, 33 Marked, from before thy Lord, for the extravagant. 34 Then We evacuated those of the Believers who were there, 35 but We found not therein except one house of those that have surrendered themselves. 36 And We left there a Sign for such as fear the Grievous Penalty. 37 And in Moses [was a sign], when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 But he turned his back, he and his courtiers, and said, "This is a sorcerer or a madman." 39 Then We seized him and his army and cast them all into the sea: he himself [Pharaoh] was to blame. 40 And in Ad: When We sent upon them the destructive wind. 41 that left nothing that it came upon without reducing it to rubble. 42 And in the tribe of Thamud when it was told to them, “Enjoy for a while.” 43 But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord, so the Sa'iqah overtook them while they were looking. 44 And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves. 45 And [thus, too, We destroyed] Noah's people aforetime: for they were iniquitous folk. 46
