The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
