The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Scorching the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
