And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and on whom We had bestowed the good things of this life, said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: he eats of that of which ye eat, and drinks of what ye drink. 33 And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers: 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ How far-fetched what you are promised; 36 This is our only life. We live and will die but we will never be brought back to life again. 37 "He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!" 38 (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies." 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 Then the shout laid hold of them in truth, and We made them a refuse; so away with the wrong-doing people! 41 After them We brought another generation into existence. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 unto Pharaoh and his Council; but they waxed proud, and they were a lofty people, 46 And said: "Should we believe in two men like yourselves, whose people are our subjects?" 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave the Book to Moses so that they may be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
