(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
