The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
