A multitude from the ancients. 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And those on the left - how wretched are those on the left! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
