In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
