The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sky and the night comer - 1 What could let you know what the nightly comer is! 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 That over each soul there is a guardian. 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 Created from a gushing fluid. 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 upon the day when the secrets are tried, 9 [man] will have no power, and no helper. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 and the earth, bursting forth with plants! 12 It is surely a decisive utterance; 13 not a flippant jest. 14 Surely they will make a scheme, 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
