The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
