The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 , A fitting reward. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
