The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
