And to Thamood their brother Salih; he said, 'O my people, serve God! You have no god other than He; there has now come to you a clear sign from your Lord -- this is the She-camel of God, to be a sign for you. Leave her that she may eat in God's earth, and do not touch her with evil, lest you be seized by a painful chastisement. 73 And remember when He appointed you successors after Ad, and lodged you in the land, taking to yourselves castles of its plains, and hewing its mountains into houses. Remember God's bounties, and do not mischief in the earth, working corruption.' 74 Said the Council of those of his people who waxed proud to those that were abased, to those of them who believed, 'Do you know that Salih is an Envoy from his Lord?' They said, 'In the Message he has been sent with we are believers.' 75 The proud oppressors said, "We reject that which you believe in". 76 So they hamstrung the She-camel and turned in disdain from the commandment of their Lord, saying, 'O Salih, bring us that thou promisest us, if thou art an Envoy.' 77 Suddenly, an earthquake jolted them and they were left motionless in their homes. 78 Then he turned from them, and said: O my people! Assuredly I delivered unto you the messages of my Lord, and counselled you good, but ye approve not the good counsellors. 79 And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people, "Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds? 80 Verily, with lust you approach men instead of women: nay, but you are people given to excesses!" 81 And the only answer of his people was that they said, 'Expel them from your city; surely they are folk that keep themselves clean!' 82 We saved him and all his family, except his wife, who was made to remain, 83 We rained down on them a shower [of brimstone]. Then see what was the end of the evil-doers. 84
