And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
