(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
